Three collages from New York street material: 2007

June 15th / Todays Post(s)

Done some fifteen years ago, this small piece for a Gilbert Paper Company promotion and was prompted by Rick Valicenti asking a group of designers the question:”If you were able to remake the world. . . ?” My answer.

2 drawings, 2 hours, too bad ? I was cleaning up my desk (in the old days I used to call it “my board”) when I spilled some ink and blotted it up with the following (even after a few additions and rearrangements) uncharacteristic results.

June 13th / Todays Post(s)

2 drawings, the first one scanned twice, once in gray-scale and once in B&W, followed by a rubbing drawing, and two photographs,”juxtapositioned.”  Not a word, but it should be.

3 pages from current “typographic” collage/drawing sketch book. Fake graphic design from someone who no longer does the real stuff because he is a retired “exit-level designer,” but still clings to the idea of making imaginary pages that might of had some potential for the real thing at some time in his working past !

Stacked strips cut from edges of old re-cropped thrift store painting becomes a “Painting”

Down around LACMA and Wiltshire at night.

June First / Todays Post(s)

Birthday lettering gift for a friend.

Two small 1969 watercolor paintings recently rediscovered in my garage.  They seem out of date for the time, they should have been done 10 years earlier, in the 50’s ! No wonder they didn’t sell for the $15 price tag they still had on them.

May 26th / Todays Post(s)

Printed in Poland, 2011, one of my last flyers for a small exhibition last summer in Torun. The one on top is the original paste up, as you can see if click on it for the large version.

May 23th / Todays Post(s)

Three current sketch book pages, black ball point pen and black Prisma color pencil, around 7 x 7 inches.

May 15th / Todays Post(s)

A page from a 2011 sketch book, a drawing with some collage bits added and a comment, “…something to do with Poe.”

An imaginary record sleeve for an exhibition in Norway, 2010, in which a selection of artists and designers contributed original artwork for a cover of a musical event or group of their choice. Click on the image for a close-up look as to what’s actually going on !

A 2011 drawing and rubbing on glossy paper with collage bit.

Mothers Day / Todays Post(s)

“The Attack” An 1843 print drawn by W. Perring and engraved by A. L. Dick, expressly for Graham’s Magazine, in case you want to know.

May 11th / Todays Post(s)

Bits and pieces, or down to the true nature of blogging.

May 9th / Todays Post(s)

3 pages from a recently started new sketch book: 7×7 square, black ballpoint and black Prismacolor pencil (which seems to scan with a greenish cast. I probably should rescan them in grayscale, or I could claim it as an “arty” effect!)

May 5th / Todays Post(s)

Rearranged old photo. The actual subject of the picture is removed, keeping only the (reversed) peripheral areas.

Forensic mystery ? No, its’ not.

May 4th / Todays Post(s)

Four drawings with collage, 9×12 inches, from a 1987 sketch book. These are variations on “Oedipus Rex,” a 1922 painting by Max Ernst.

May 2nd / Todays Post(s)

Three days, three drawings with collage bits . . . all very small scale, around 5×5, 5×7, 4×6 or so inches. Kind of like everything I do nowadays.
